Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Design and Specification Engineer to join our Engineering team in Riyadh, contributing to the development and delivery of High Voltage (HV) and Extra High Voltage (EHV) underground power cables (typically 66kV to 400kV). The role focuses on the design, technical specification, and customization of cable products, ensuring compliance with customer requirements and international standards. The successful candidate will work closely with sales, production, R&D, and quality departments.
Job Objectives:
Designs cost-effective cable specifications to meet SCC customer’s requirements.
Provides guidance and advice to HV/EHV specification engineers for preparation of correct and timely technical offers for onward submission to customers through the Commercial Department.
Key Responsibilities:
Designs and develops construction specification of HV/EHV cables, obtains management approvals, and coordinates with manufacturing to study feasibility of design with available plant facilities.
Develops product manufacturing specifications for HV/EHV cables as per international standards or customer requirements.
Develops cable construction and related mathematical calculations. Enters specifications into the technical costing system to provide Design Manufacturing Specification & Bill of Material (DMS + BOM).
Monitors international standards updates and informs concerned departments.
Modifies existing programs or develops new ones in technical/cost systems when necessary.
Provides technical support to sales, marketing, and customers, including site visits.
Prepares technical calculations for HV cables (electrical and mechanical parameters) to meet customer satisfaction.
Prepares all required data based on customer’s requirements and site conditions.
Supports SASO in preparing and modifying specifications as per international standards.
Performs related duties such as training new employees or working on the shop floor.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Engineering.
5+ years of hands-on experience in HV/EHV cable design and specification, with solid knowledge of accessories and system performance.
Proven experience with cable installation techniques for voltages up to 400 kV.
Proficient in ADVARIS and CYMCAP for cable parameters calculation.
Strong understanding of international cable standards (IEC, IEEE, etc.) and GCC authority requirements (e.g., SEC, DEWA).
Proficiency in preparing technical documentation, diagrams, and drawings (AutoCAD or similar tools).
Excellent communication skills in English; Arabic is an advantage.
Preferred Attributes:
Experience working in the GCC region, particularly with major utility tenders and projects.
Knowledge of material selection, thermal modeling, and mechanical design considerations in HV cables.
Familiarity with type testing procedures, third-party certifications, and utility approval processes.
LV/MV experience will be an additional advantage.
